Am I my brothers keeper?

Last night as I was watching my nightly dose of Decision 2008 on C-Span, that tells you I do have problems, I finally got to see Barack Obama. He was speaking in front of Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. I have to admit the guy is a tremendous speaker and I was looking forward to hearing his plans for solving the huge problems facing America.

Unfortunately I did not get to hear any real substance but a lot of rhetoric. He did tell us that he is not the usual candidate that just talks about plans but he has done many of the things he was talking about. He made it sound like he single handedly found everyone on the south side of Chicago a job and also swept the barrios and ghettos. It was really impressive. My favorite part of his domestic policy was his asking the question “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

This quote is a Bible verse. God asked Cain where Able is, after Cain had murdered him, and Cain responds “I know not; am I my brothers keeper?” With that being said, most of us probably know this quote from the movie New Jack City starring Wesley Snipes as the drug lord Nino Brown. He used this line many times to rally his gang and to let them know that they were a team and they were to take care of each other. Of course he killed his best friend Gee Money and sold the rest of his crew out to save his own skin before being killed in the court house.

The question is can we trust a guy who quotes killers for his domestic policy and has no foreign policy experience at all? I don’t know the answer to that yet and I will hold judgment until I see a lot more from him. But it seems to me the current guy holding the White House spoke a lot about bringing the country together and restoring honor and integrity to the Oval office in 2000 and that has not worked out to well for us.

-Isn't it sad when 48 dead is an unusually quiet day. I'm sure our current administration would say this is progress but of course they would be cherry picking the info they use for their arguments like they always do.

Only 32 died???Big Deal??

I don't mean to be disrespectful about the tragedy, but our apathy is causing much greater tragedies all over the globe. When is America going to wake up and realize that our desire for cheap oil has caused 48 Va. Techs from a military stand point? We are averaging 1 Va. Tech per month in Iraq and America is too busy to stand up and say Harry Reid is right.

We have lost this war militarily because Bush has failed our service men and women diplomatically. If the Democrats are too stupid and unwilling to make this point then I hope any Democrat who does not stand up has an Antiwar challenger in the next election.

Iraq is a nation about 1/10th the size of ours population wise and they have between 50 and 200 friends and family members dieing everyday. That would be like 500 to 2000 Americans dieing everyday here on our home front due to the arrogance of another country's leader wanting our.....hmmmm......happy meals?

Call or write your representatives and ask them to bring our troops home. End the occupation of Iraq now before 1 more Va. Tech is allowed to occur.

Demand an investigation into how this war started and the real reasons behind it. You think 5 million lost emails in Gonzo-gate is a big deal. If congress starts investigating this you can bet entire buildings of information will have been misplaced or be under executive privilege.

Happiness

This will be a little off the beaten path, but since I have been absent for so long I thought I would come back with something a little different.

I experienced happiness the other day. You know the kind of happiness when one gets married (if you are a woman), or when your children are born. I felt my heart leap in my chest and was shocked. I never knew this kind of happiness could be had just doing a daily chore.

I was walking my dog and it was about 35 degrees with a blustery 20 mile an hour wind. The trees were causing the wind to whirl in every direction. No matter which way you turned the wind was in your face. As Jake was going from spot to spot sniffing looking for the perfect place to make his deposit, I was just trying to keep my face out of the direct wind. Then after about 5 minutes it happened, happiness came in to my life.

My soul was warming. I could feel heat returning to my face. My heart and I think my feet did a little dance.

Happiness is your dog’s asshole flaring open on a blustery day.
